Quick answer
Tier 2 is not only a hull purchase. Follow the visible Compass requirement, complete Deeds for the matching Principle Path, and keep enough production and upkeep capacity for the new crew. Check the ship panel’s current requirement in your save before spending points based on another campaign.

Unlock order
- Open the Compass and identify which Principle Path the ship requires.
- Complete the easiest available Deeds for that path.
- Spend the resulting Principle Points only after checking the next unlock.
- Confirm the Pier, shipyard or other visible building requirement.
- Prepare beds, food, drink, supplies, and a crew before launching.
The number of points and the exact building gate are version-sensitive. Community guides commonly describe Tier 2 as a focused early milestone; use that as a planning hint, not as a promise that every mode or patch uses identical thresholds.
Avoid the broad-path trap
Spending one point in every quadrant can unlock several partial bonuses while leaving the ship you actually need out of reach. Pick a voyage purpose first—exploration, combat, cargo, or an event—then let the corresponding Deeds and production needs guide your next points. See Deeds and Compass build paths for a wider plan.
Ready-to-launch check
- The current ship panel shows no missing unlock requirement.
- The Pier and ship construction chain are connected.
- Crew can leave without emptying an essential camp job.
- Home Stew, Booze, housing, and storage remain stable.
- Supplies and the captain’s cards match the voyage objective.
If the ship is available but the voyage fails, use ship and crew loadouts and ship combat recovery instead of spending more Compass points blindly.
Sources and caveat
The Compass, Deeds, ship, and production systems are described in official game materials. Thresholds, buildings, and crew demands can change; record the version shown in your save when reporting a mismatch.
