Quick answer
Wine is not a normal production-chain item. The official resource page classifies it as a Raid Resource, lists no producer, and says it is required by Navigators. Look for it in raid loot and prize tables rather than searching the building menu for a winery.[^1]

Why the Wine icon feels like a production problem
Wine appears beside goods that can be made locally, but the source rules are different. A production building can never solve a raid-only shortage. The official Wine page confirms the resource category and Navigator demand, but does not name a guaranteed event or drop amount. Check the actual reward preview before choosing a voyage.
If Navigator upkeep is falling, check these in order:
- Open the Navigator demand or crew-upkeep panel and confirm Wine is the missing item. The official pirate list records Navigators at 0.5 Wine per minute.1
- Check the Pier's loot storage and the warehouse/camp distribution route for an existing Wine stack. Raid goods enter the haven through Pier storage before Fetchers distribute them.2
- Look for Wine explicitly in an available reward preview; a generic raid-resource reward does not guarantee Wine.
- Recheck the receiving storage and Navigator route after the ship returns.
- Only then change crew assignments or build extra service capacity.
What to build, and what not to build
| Situation | Correct response |
|---|---|
| Wine is absent everywhere | Look for a reward that explicitly lists Wine |
| Wine exists in a warehouse but Navigators still complain | Inspect delivery and camp access |
| Tavern is built but Wine is still zero | The Tavern is a consumer, not a producer |
| A second winery seems tempting | Do not spend a building slot; Wine has no listed producer |
The resource page lists a warehouse stack size of 1,000 and a trade value of 200. Those numbers describe storage and trade context, not a guaranteed way to create Wine.3
Before committing another ship
Record the Wine already stored, the demand shown by your Navigators, and the reward on offer. If you cannot find a confirmed source in the available encounters, do not assume another arbitrary raid will fix the shortage. Stabilise the fleet you can currently supply, and revisit the reward options as exploration progresses.
FAQ
Can I produce Wine with a building?
The official resource record lists no producer and labels Wine a Raid Resource. Plan around raids and loot instead.3
Why did my Tavern not fix the shortage?
Placing a service building does not establish a source of this raid resource. Confirm Wine has actually been acquired, then inspect its route to the relevant demand.3
Is Wine needed by every crew type?
The official page specifically names Navigators. Check your live crew panel for any additional demand introduced by a patch.3
